Our fall reelection campaign has shifted into gear, and I continue to be very encouraged at the response we are receiving from voters.
Our campaign had a strong presence at both the West Des Moines and Windsor Heights parades over the Independence Day weekend. The weather was perfect and our volunteers had a lot of fun handing out thousands of notepads and stickers. My personal highlight was a comment by one of our volunteers who is from China and currently a graduate student at Iowa State: "Thank you for including me. It warms my heart to see so many people smiling and waving!"
We also enjoyed a great time at our first Hagenow for Iowa House Summer Cookout. Well over 100 people showed up at the Windsor Heights Community Center to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and good company. My wife Amanda auctioned off two of her famous cheesecakes and is clearly ready for another successful year at the Iowa State Fair in the baking contests.
We will have several events over the coming weeks and months. Next up, on the evening of August 6th, Rep. Guy Vander Linden and I are holding a fundraising reception at Doll Distributing in Des Moines.
I am always interested in events or meetings in the community. Please let me know if there is an event you would like me to attend.
However, the real effort of the campaign is our door-to-door work, which is going very well. People understand that while Washington D.C. is broken, we have made government work in Iowa. We will be out talking and listening to as many people as possible between now and election day.
